We had a power outage and the power surge must have hurt the defrost thermostat. We hired a repairman to figure out the issue, and once the defrost thermostat was changed, everything started working normally again.

My man, you literally are saving me (and countless others) thousands of dollars by sharing this hack … mine is an older Brother MFC-J4510DW and it just doesn’t matter 😂 because I must have bought it at least a decade ago when “we needed a fax, scanner, printer, copy machine” and I’m a Brother loyalist so that’s why; but presumably NEVER having to pay for color cartridges again because and I know this is nuts … I AM NOT PRINTING COLOR ANYTHING EVER AGAIN, a million thanks and 10 stars!!!!!!!!!!

Our power went out in California 2xs in 3 days due to the Tesla Supercharger station at the gas station 5 blocks away. Just noticed everything is spoiled 😭 and fridge is cold- disconnected the power and plugged it back in and it the fridge started back up again

Thank you. We used a screwdriver in the hole and turned the button and it reset immediately. We left ours down for a week after a power outage. Our refrigerator is a Kenmore.

This is f#cking criminal. How can they sell such defective products? All i wanted to do was print a some amount of text , in black, and i couldn't because my printer said i was out of yellow. I had to do this tape over sensor thing just to print out 3 sentences on a sheet of paper.

Thank you. All I needed was one black and white page printed and for some reason it said all my cartridges were empty. I didn't have tape or a sharpie but paint worked great. I painted both sides just to be sure.

Great video. Thanks. Another way to deal with this is to change the printer to B/W modus, using the service manual available on the internet. For my MFC-J5320WD it works as follows: Press the Home symbol for 5 seconds, then touch the lower, empty field of the appearing screen. Enter *2864 to enter the maintenance mode. Then enter 88 for the register settings, change the ASM04 register from default 00000000 to 00100000. (ASM04=00100000 at the end). Press SET and then type 99 for ending maintenance mode, printer rebooting. Printing is now only B/W, even with empty color ink cartridges.

My printer is only a little over a year old. The reset didn't work for me. Maybe Brother removed the reset. I even contacted them, asking if I could reset it, they said no. The "low toner" just started today. Looks like the cartridge is about 1/5 full. What a waste.
